Lady Rugby Cranes Triumph at Safari 7s

The Uganda Women’s national rugby 7s team, the Lady Rugby Cranes, claimed victory at the Safari 7s held at the RFUEA grounds in Kenya on Saturday and Sunday.

Displaying remarkable prowess, the Lady Rugby Cranes secured a hard-fought 15-12 win against the host team, Kenya Lionesses.

Agnes Nakuya, Lydia Namabiro, and Peace Lekuru scored three unconverted tries, sealing Uganda’s well-deserved triumph.

Under the guidance of Coach Charles Onen, the team defeated Cubs 26-12 in the semifinals, while Kenya Lionesses outclassed Tropic 7s 40-00 in the other semifinal match.

This victory marked a significant achievement for Uganda, who previously secured bronze in the 2021 edition of the tournament.

Furthermore, Captain Peace Lekuru emerged as the top points scorer and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Men’s team, the Uganda sevens, secured a respectable third place after defeating Germany 31-07 in a consolation match.

As for the Men’s title, Kenya’s Shujaa claimed victory with a 19-00 win over Samurai in the final showdown.
