Kyetume Hold Lugazi To Keep Top 3 In Sight

Kyetume held Lugazi to a 1-1 draw in a FUFA Big League match played at Lugazi stadium on Monday, November 20.

Had Lugazi won, they’d have drawn level on 17 points with second-placed Blacks Power who have played a game more.

A Kyetume win would’ve seen the Mukono-based side leap into the top three after nine games.

The Monday game saw Savio Kabugo return to the Lugazi squad as Abdul Kalanzi also started in place for rested Umar Kayemba.

The visitors got ahead before the 20th minute through an own goal that sent the hosts into panic mode, having conceeded so early in a game they hoped to win.

A few minutes later, Lugazi got the closest to scoring as Ronald Ssempala went with a cut-back to find Sam Ssemugugu who tried a shot but hit the side of the net.

Finally, ten minutes after the restart of the second half, Ssempala leveled matters, converting from the spot.

As Lugazi intensified the their search for a second goal, Andrew Odong was brought in for Abdul Kalanzi, Ssemugugu paved way for Nsubuga while Mubarak Mitala came on for captain Brian Ssali, all in vain.

After 90 minutes plus four minutes of stoppage time, the game was still 1-1 and the points were shared, much to Kyetume’s liking, having picked up a point on the road, unlike the hosts who were a bit disappointed with dropping points at home.

Lugazi and Kyetume, who came into the game sitting in third and fourth positions respectively will both retain their respective places on the table.

The Leaders and Slaughters will also each add a point to the 14 and 13 they each had to now make 15 and 14 points respectively.
