In a pivotal announcement from the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB), Alberto Antuna has been appointed as the new head coach for Senegal’s women’s national basketball team.
Antuna gets the job a month after resigning from his role as the Uganda Women National basketball team, Gazelles, coach.
He had led the Gazelles to a seventh place finish at Women Afrobasket 2023 in Kigali.
In Senegal, his appointment follows the retirement of former coach Moustapha Gaye.
“After thorough consideration of numerous applications, both local and foreign, we are proud to select the Spanish technician, Alberto Antuna, to take the helm,” stated Senegal Basketball Federation DTN Raoul Toupane. Toupane.
“His deep understanding of African basketball and extensive coaching experience set him apart.”
It’s strong to note that Antuna had guided the Gazelles to a historical victory against Senegal in the Afrobasket groups.
Assisting Coach Antuna in steering the Senegal women’s team will be Madiene Fall, Khady Sourang Diop, and the newly appointed Sidy Sall.
While the former two names are recognized from their previous engagement with the lionesses during the Kigali campaign, Sidy Sall, a coach hailing from the NBA Academy, brings a fresh perspective and expertise to complement the lionesses’ coaching staff.
