The Uganda Men’s Rugby National Team, the Rugby Cranes, marked a powerful start in the 2023 Victoria Cup, triumphing over Zambia with a commanding 30-8 victory on Saturday at the Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.

The Cranes soared with an impressive four tries, including a Penalty try.

Captain Ivan Magomu played a pivotal role, contributing the remaining points with his precise kicks.

Eric Mulamula, Timothy Kisiga, and Mark Omoding were the try-scorers for Uganda in a game that marked the National Team’s inaugural appearance at the Bweyogerere venue.

This game also marked a sensational return to action for the Rugby Cranes, their last appearance being in July last year at the Rugby Africa Cup held in France, which also served as a World Cup Qualifier.

Zambia, who saw Hillary Mwasi receive a yellow card, managed to secure points through Terry Kaushiki’s penalty before halftime and David Koloko’s try in the second stanza.

The tournament, which hasn’t taken place since 2019, has attracted three participating countries, including Kenya.

Kenya is set to face Zambia on Thursday at Kyadondo before clashing against Uganda on Sunday in Bweyogerere in what promises to be an exciting continuation of the Victoria Cup tournament.
