Gloria Amony scored a brace as Weatherhead beat Wananchi 5-3 on Sunday to go second in the National Women’s Hockey League.
Weatherhead entered the game placed third, three points and a point behind table leaders Kampala Swan and Wananchi respectively, but the orange ladies overcame their rivals in an eight-goal thriller.
Amony opened the scoring early in the game to give Weatherhead a first quarter lead, and her second arrived in the second quarter, but Wananchi through Irene Atim and Rachel Afoyorwoth responded to ensure that quarter ends 2-2.

Anita Atim and Jolly Alimo then entered the score sheet for Weatherhead and Wananchi respectively, but the latter still had enough in their tank as they won the game in the last quarter.
Abigail Brenda and Patience Asiimwe netted the two goals in the fourth quarter to hand Weatherhead their eighth win of the season.
It was victory that saw Weatherhead dislodge Wananchi from the second position, and one that keeps them three points behind KHC.
KHC edged Wananchi-HDF 2-0 to remain top of the table. The club’s current top scorer Lucy Akello scored both goals.
She takes her tally of goals to 19, just two behind leading goal scorer Doreen Mbabazi from Wananchi.
Kampala Swan lead the table standings with 29 points, Weatherhead on second with 26 while Wananchi drop to third with 24.
