Uganda Open Chess Championship: Dates, Venue Confirmed

Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) has announced the venue and dates for this year’s Uganda Open Chess Championship.

The Championship is scheduled to take place at Nob View Hotel in Ntinda between 6th-9th October.

As it’s been the case for the past few years, this event will double as a Qualifier for the World Chess Olympiad.

The event comes as the second Grand Prix Circuit in the UCF calendar, and it will be used to award part of the 2024 Olympiad qualifying points to the top 20 players.

The tournament is open to all players with a FIDE ID and it will be run according to the Swiss
Pairing System over a total of 8 rounds.

The official classical FIDE ratings will be used for pairing and rating purposes, and the time control for all games is 90 minutes+30sec classical where a default losing time will be 60 minutes.

For players intending to earn draws, no draw offers will be allowed before black has completed the 30th move.

The event will be played in three categories including the Juniors, Ladies and Open categories.

Unlike last year’s edition that saw only IM Elijah Emojong of the top players in the regiontake part, this edition is expected to attract the very best from the region.

Rajab Kamoga grabbed the opportunity with both hands last year as he emerged champion.

The first and second rounds will be played on Friday, 6th October after the opening ceremony.
