Aziz Damani opened their National Women’s Super 7s T20 Cup campaign with two deserving victories following their 13-run and 100-run victories over Soroti City and Pioneer respectively on Saturday.
The tournament bowled off on 2nd September, but Damani who are the most successful team in the national women’s league had not played a single game. On their return to the field, the yellow ladies reminded their rivals of their prowess.
Soroti City beat Damani to the league title in June, but Damani delivered their revenge with a 13-run win against the side and have taken up the top position on the table, dislodging Soroti.
Proscovia Alako ended the league in wanting form, but she’s started this tournament, the same way she did the league.
Alako was pivotal for her side in both games, scoring a 61 not out against Soroti before registering 64 against Pioneer. On both occasions, the opening batter was named the Player of the Match.
Immaculate Nakisuyi had a decent outing as well. Added to her 25 runs, the ‘boss lady’ picked two wickets against Soroti before getting another two in the afternoon.
Damani also had Kenyan International Queenter Abel who was named the MVP, best batter, and best bowler at the recently concluded Africa T20 World Cup Qualifiers Div 2 in Botswana feature for them. She came out with two wickets on her first game and one in the second.
Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko also picked two against Pioneer.
It was a forgettable outing for majority of Soroti City bowlers. Aside from Evelyn Anyipo (3) and Phionah Kulume (1), none was able to pick a wicket.
Opener Irene Alumo bowled at an economy of 5.00 while Janet Mbabazi bowled at 9.00. Mbabazi conceded 9 runs from the only Over she took charge of.
Soroti City started the day as the team on top, but that loss descends them to the second position.
