FUFA Big League side Police FC has confirmed Simon Peter Mugerwa as their new head coach.
Mugerwa, currently at Buddu (Masaza Cup), replaces Angello Lonyesi at the helm.
The former Bright Stars CAF B coach has joined the Peace Keepers on a two-year deal.
“I am very happy upon joining Police, I consider Police as my home team, since my childhood I have been following this Club while it was still in the lower leagues. I am born of the area, so its a dream come true for me,” Mugerwa said.
“The target is to take the club where it belongs, and that is the Uganda Premier League. We have to work hard with the players.
“There is always pressure being here, the targets are high because this is a big club but I have to work hand in hand with everyone to see that we achieve the set targets.”
Police will start their 2023/24 FUFA Big League campaign against Young Elephants on September 25 at Kavumba.
Police have already acquired a couple of players including a quartet from Arua Hill – Augustine Kacancu, Isaac Ogwang, Ivan Eyamu and Steven Kabuye.
The Cops have also previously officially unveiled Edgar Tukahirwa, Ahmed Amayo, Raymond Onyai, Edmond ‘Sizzo’ Otim, Edward Kasibante, Allan Bukenya, Daniel Otto, Gabriel Eragu and Brian James Obedi.
Last season, Police narrowly missed out on a qualification slot by just three points, having accumulated 54 points from 30 games to finish fourth on a 16-team table, just a position below NEC FC who took up the third and last qualification slot to the UPL with 57 points.
