Newly appointed Mbale Heroes FC head coach Asaph Mwebaze has promised to guide the club, fresh out of promotion from the third division back to the top flight – the Uganda Premier League (UPL).
The newly promoted FUFA Big League side want to play just one season in the second division upon their return after two years away, and immediately qualify to the next level.
Considering Hassan Zungu, Peter Onen, Simon Dungu and a number of other coaches before zeroing down to Mwebaze, in him, the Surgeons have renewed hopes that he is the right man to steer their team towards their goal.
The CAF B tactician was unveiled by the two-times Uganda Cup winners in Mbale of Friday, and he knows a huge task awaits him.

“This is a big club with a big history and I am here to try to put the club where it is supposed to be,” the coach remarked after his unveiling.
“It’s been more than 15 years without topflight football and we are going to work very hard to return the club to greater heights,” Mwebaze promised.
“The leaders of Mbale Heroes presented an ambitious project to me, which greatly intrigued me and influenced my decision to join the club. Their goal is to successfully elevate this team back to the topflight football.”
“We are dedicated as coaches and staff to make sure we provide entertainment and also good results,” the coach remarked.
“We encourage the fans to come in big numbers. Let them bring their families so that whoever comes to Mbale has an experience to tell the rest of the world.”

The fans in Mbale have so far given the coach a warm welcome; he tickled their nerves with his convincing 4-1 win against stubborn Amus College in a friendly match played on Friday evening at Mbale Stadium.
However, it’s towards the end of this month, at the same venue, when and where Mwebaze will come to face his first real task as Mbale Heroes coach.
On 26th, September, Mbale stadium will be filled to full capacity as the Surgeons square off with City rivals Kataka FC in the league opener.
With the arrival of Mwebaze, the Surgeons are confident, they eagerly anticipate an exhilarating journey marked by a string of triumphs, starting with a win against their arch-rivals.
The coach brings with him a alot of experience, having previously also coached Bright Stars FC Maroons FC, Onduparaka FC and Nyamityobora FC.
With the Prison Warders, he made so much history; He remarkably guided Maroons FC to UPL promotion thrice, and all three times as Champions – in 2007 after 20years, 2010 and 2015.
