NEC FC earned a dream start to the Uganda Premier League following their 1-0 win over Mbarara City in their opening game of the season at Kakyeka.

Right back Joseph Dhata’s second half goal was enough as the Bugolobi based team picked a hard fought win away from home.

It was a dream start for NEC FC, who are making their debut season in the Uganda Premier League.

They finished third in the Big league to qualify to the top flight last season, a place below Mbarara City.

On Friday,Their coach Hussein Mbalangu made no mistake, naming a strong team that had a couple of new signings including midfielder Allan Mugalu , left back Rashid Okocha among others.

Despite a barren half time, NEC made an instant impact dorminating the early stages of the second half.

It paid off through Dhata, who scored in the 50th minute, a goal that handed his side all the three points.

The hosts, Mbarara City, who also had a strong team on paper tried to squeeze for an equaliser but were denied any chance.

Victory ensured that NEC FC got off a perfect start, more so at an enemy territory. It was also a good day for coach Mbalangu and he will be hoping that his team maintains the same energy in the upcoming fixtures.

For Mbarara City, the loss was a big blow for them, on their return to Kakyeka. They will need a better reaction to avoid early struggles on their return to the Uganda Premier League.
