Bishop Stuart University Vs ISBAT University – Mbarara, 3pm
St. Lawrence University kicked off this year’s Pepsi University football league with a comfortable 3-1 win over Nkumba University in a game held at Kavule on Wednesday.
Goals from Kembo Osman, Abura Micheal and Matege Innocent ensured that SLAU got off a perfect start.
Abbey Kavuma scored the only goal for Nkumba as they suffered defeat.
It was a good start for SLAU who lost last year’s finals to eventual champions Uganda Martyrs Nkozi that were held at Lugogo in November last year.
SLAU, despite loosing a couple of their players including Blunchar Mulamba (Wakiso Giants), Bruno Bunyaga (URA FC), they showed class against Nkumba.
They got an early lead in the 8th minute through Kembo and his goal was the difference at half time.
SLAU, who were dorminant came back even more stronger in the second half and scored two more goals.
Midfielder Abura added the second in the 50th minute before Matege made it three eight minutes later to put the game far beyond the visitors reach.
Late in the game, Kavuma pulled one goal for Nkumba but it was too late to stage a come back.
The win saw St. Lawrence University assume an early lead in group E that has teams like Gulu University, IUEA and Nkumba.
Action will resume today as Bishop Stuart University welcome new comers ISBAT University at Mbarara.
The University Football League kicked off on Tuesday this week with defending champions Uganda Martyrs Nkozi beating Bugema 3-1 in a game held at Nkozi.
It’s strong to note that this years University football league will have 23 teams unlike the previous seasons that had 22 teams with ISBAT University being the new comers in this year’s edition.
