FUFA Big League side Lugazi FC have confirmed the signing of towering defender Savio ‘Ginola’ Kabugo ahead of the 2023/24 season.
“Here is a BIG one! Savio Kabugo ‘Ginola’ becomes our latest signing,” the Leaders announced upon landing the gigantic defender.
The ex Uganda Cranes international takes with him alot of experience to the second division side, having played in different competitions in Uganda and abroad.
In Uganda, the hard tackling center back has previously played for big clubs like SC Victoria University, UPL record winners SC Villa, KCCA, URA FC and Proline.
The Ugandan also played for Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, AS Vita in Democratic Republic of Congo and Sebeta FC in Ethiopia.
After just their first season in the Big League, in which they peeped at promotion to the first division, Lugazi now want to make the move deliberate this term.
They were only 13 points away from qualification, after finishing sixth on the 15-team table with 44 points from 30 games.
The club has recruited heavily, as well as ensured to keep their key players from last season. Players like Faizal Matovu, Derrick Ochen amongst others have all re-committed themselves to the club.
Kabugo now becomes Lugazi’s 12th official new signing after Latif Kiyemba, Samuel Ssemugugu, Ronald Ssempala, Alvin Burungi, James Okiror, Abraham Opio, Solomon Okodi, Freedom Mungudit, Mubarak Mitala, Andrew Odong, and Samuel Nsubuga.
A dozen in is good business for the Lugazi side that just recently confirmed departure of upto nine players, including their last season’s top scorer Gerald Ogweti and goalkeeper Anthony Emojong who left to Uganda Premier League sides BUL FC and KCCA FC respectively.
Bob Charles Akena, Farook Banga, Godfrey Bubi, David Kizza, Tito Titus Lubega, Ben Ntege and Florence Watmon are the other players who have left the club during this transfer period.
