Newly promoted Uganda Premier League (UPL) side Mbarara City will host their games at Kakyeka Stadium, not Bombo Barracks, as earlier communicated.
This, after FUFA has told StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) to reconsider Kakyeka Stadium as fit to be used for the forthcoming season.
In a letter dated 11, September, addressed to all stakeholders, the SUPL CEO Bernard Bainamani confirmed the new development.
“The Secretariat is in receipt of a letter from FUFA indicating that Kakyeka Stadium has been approved to host the StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches for 2023/24 season.”

“Accordingly, Mbarara City FC home matches will now be hosted at Kakyeka Stadium,” the document from SUPL confirmed.
Otherwise, the newly promoted UPL side was set to host their home games over 300kms away from home, in Luweero at Bombo Barracks.
As of early August, when the declaration was made public that Kakyeka couldn’t host games, the famous stadium had failed to meet the required standards set by FUFA to host UPL games.
Now the Ankole Lions will play comfortably at their own Kakyeka home, as they leave the Bombo Barracks Stadium for the owners UPDF FC who also play in the UPL.
Mbarara will start life in the UPL at Kakyeka, against fellow newcomers NEC FC. Unlike their visitors, the Ankole Lions have ever played in the top division before, and suffocated so many teams that visited them at their fortress.
