Alvin Birungi: Pacy Youngster Joins Big League Side

FUFA Big League side Lugazi FC have announced the signing of proficient attacking midfielder Alvin Birungi from Kampala region side Ntinda United Football Club.

The fast-paced 19-year old has committed to a three-year employment contract that will keep him with the Leaders until atleast 2026, as he has an option to renew.

Birungi’s addition deliberately aimed at reinforcing the Leaders’ attacking force as well as instantaneously intensifying their overall quality of the squad.

Upon signing, Birungi said, This is the start of a new journey for me, I am excited by the opportunity to be part of the club, and I can’t wait to play my part to the success of this great football club.”

The Kampala Galaxy soccer academy graduate had spent five years at Ntinda United FC, gaining enough playing experience since 2018. However, it’s in the just concluded season that he stood out, netting seven time and assisting twice in ten appearances, guiding his side to a 4th place finish.

The midfielder now joins Lugazi as they want to make a deliberate attempt at qualification to the UPL in their second season in the Big League, after coming very close last season.

They were only 13 points and three places away from qualification, after finishing sixth on the 15-team table with 44 points from 30 games.

Lugazi want to utilise the midfielder’s exceptional attacking skills as they look forward to building an impenetrable and competitive squad.

Alvin Birungi now becomes Lugazi’s eighth official new signing after Jimmy Okiror, Abraham Opio, Solomon Okodi, Freedom Mungudit, Mubarak Mitala, Andrew Odong, and Samuel Nsubuga.

After awarding the head coach William Kyeswa a three-year contract extension, the Leaders have also managed to so far tie down eight of their (last season’s) players with new contracts.

Muhamed Lubega, Isaac Tamale, Shafik Kiryowa, Moses Buga, Derrick Ochen, Louis Anguti, Brian Sali and Paul Wasswa have all signed new contracts to stay at Lugazi.

Meanwhile, the club also confirmed departure of upto nine players, including their last season’s top scorer Gerald Ogweti and goalkeeper Anthony Emojong.

Bob Charles Akena, Farook Banga, Godfrey Bubi, David Kizza, Tito Titus Lubega, Ben Ntege and Florence Watmon are the other players who left the club during this transfer period.
