Uganda’s athletes Halimah Nakaayi and Peruth Chemutai will be in action as the Athletics Season continues with the Diamond League in Zurich at the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.
The Weltklasse meeting in Zurich comes days after the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary where Nakaayi and Chemutai were part.
Nakaayi will lineup in her favourite event, 800m, in a field that also has three fellow finalists in Budapest.
She was impressive en route to the final, but her chase for a medal fell flat after finishing eighth in a 1:59.18.
Mary Moraa, Keely Hodgkinson and Athing Mu took the podium places in that order.
Raevyn Rodgers, Nia Akins and Adelle Tracey who competed in the final but finished outside the medal bracket, will face off with Nakaayi.
Peruth Chemutai will hope to make amends when she comes out for the 3000m Steeplechase.
The Olympic champion finished seventh in a time of 9:10.26 in the Budapest final.
Bahrain’s world champion Winfred Yavi will be in Zurich as she seeks to exert her dominance in the field.
She will meet face fellow medallists including world record-holder Beatrice Chepkoech and Faith Cherotich, and other finalists including Chemutai.
Both Nakaayi and Chemutai might have already earned qualification times for the Paris Olympics next year, but will have their sights on concluding this year strongly.
