Super 8: Bright Stars Stun Vipers To Finish Fifth

Vipers lost to Bright Stars in penalties in the FUFA Super Eight classification game at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

Normal time ended 1-1 before Dan Sserunkuma had his penalty saved by Emmanuel Derrick Were.

The Visitors took a lead when Gideon Etou headed in off a well delivered corner by Denis Omony before halftime.

But the Venoms levelled in the second half thanks to a superb goal from substitute Mohamed Salem Ekbad who beat a couple of bodies before sweeping it at the far end.

Veteran forward Dan Sserunkuma missed his spot kick for Vipers as Karim Watambala, Bright Anukani, Richard Matovu and Ekbad all converted theirs.

For Bright Stars, goalkeeper Derrick Were, Etou, Kato Samuel, Omony and David Kizza all scored from the spot-kicks.

Elsewhere, Andrew Kigozi scored twice while George Kaddu added the other as Wakiso Giants beat at Luzira.

Fred Amaku scored Maroons’ consolation goal who finish eighth.

Maroons tormentors finished seventh, as Vipers finish sixth and Bright Stars finished fifth.

Villa face KCCA on Sunday at 2pm in the fight for bronze before URA and BUL lineup in the final at 4pm, with both games at Lugogo.
