Insurance company Britam Uganda has joined a list of sponsors for this year’s Tusker-Lite Mountain Rwenzori Marathon due this Saturday on September 2 in Kasese.
Britam has come on board with Sh66.5m, with Sh50m as the insurance package.
“This is an unprecedented partnership that we are making with Tusker-Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, We have a cash commitment and also have a package for Insurance that will mainly cater for the liabilities for the people that will be at the event,” said Richard Mwebesa, Britam’s General Manager.
“This (Marathon) also aligns with our philosophy as Britam to support communities, we know the impact that this Marathon is going to make to the people in Eastern Uganda and especially those in Kasese.”
Mwebesa commented that the Marathon will go a long way in boosting the area’s economy so “we are proudly associated with this event.”
“We are looking forward for the event this year and more to come.”
Britam’s Head of Marketing Amos Lutakome confirmed that they will also take over 15 staff members to Kasese to take part in the running.
Britam has also partnered with KCCA FC, Uganda Golf and Rugby as well as they seek to improve Sports and communities.
Britam joins title sponsor Tusker-Lite, Hima Cement, Standard Chartered Bank, UNDP, Rocket Health, Coca Cola and Rwenzori Mineral Water among others for this year’s edition.
Amos Wekesa, the Director of Equator Hikes who are organizers of the Marathon commended Britam.
“We are extremely very excited with this partnership, we are so happy to be working with these top organisations,” said Wekesa.
“You all know that insurance in Sport is such an important aspect of travel and we are hoping that whoever arrives in the country will sign an insurance policy with Britam on your travel.
“Sports is more engaging and challenging and it needs an insurance company, and that’s why we are happy that Britam is on board to partner with us going forward.”
