JKT Queens have qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League after winning the CECAFA Region Zonal Qualifiers tournament.

The Tanzanian outfit beat Ethiopia’s CBE 5-4 on penalties in a final held at Njeru on Wednesday.

At normal time, the game ended goalless and it meant that only penalties could separate the two sides in what was an entertaining final.

In penalties, JKT’s Happyness Heston Mwaipaja was the hero of the day after she scored the decisive spot kick that sent her side in glory.

Esther Mabanza, Donisia Minja, Gerald Winifrida and Antony Anatazia all scored their respective penalties for JKT.

While on the other hand, Temsegen Mesay missed her spot kick that saw her side bow out in pain.

Loza Abera, Emebet Afaw, Aregash Tadesse and Nardos Gefnet scored their spot kicks for CBE, but they couldn’t help the Ethiopian side retain the big prize.

And CBE will have themselves to blame having missed a couple of chances at normal time.

Their captain Abera will feel unlucky for missing a couple, including one on one with JKT’s goalkeeper on many occasions.

For JKT Queens, it’s been an impressive tournament for them, starting all the way from the group stages where they topped group B with 9 points.

They now become the second Tanzanian side to reach the final tournament, after Simba Queens did the same last year.

JKT will now represent the CECAFA region at the final tournament of the CAF Women’s Champions League that will be held in Ivory Coast due this year .
