Uganda’s middle distance runner Halimah Nakaayi progressed to the final of the Women’s 800m final at the ongoing 2023 World Athletics Championships.
She finished third in Heat behind Mary Moraa (Kenya) and Athing Mu (United States) who earned automatic slots in Sunday’s final.
Nakaayi’s time of 1:58.89 was just enough to take her through as one of the two non-automatic qualifiers.

She will be bidding to win the title she won in 2019 at the World Championships in Doha.
But will face tough competition in a field that also has two Great Britain duo of Jemma Reekie and Keely Hodgkinson.
On Saturday, Uganda will have the trio of Doreen Chesang, Mercyline Chelangat and Rebeca Cheptegei in the Women’s Marathon.

Uganda has won one medal – Gold to be specific by Joshua Cheptegei at the Men’s 10,000m.
Peruth Chemutai will be in the Women’s 3000m SC final on Sunday.
First on Sunday will be the Men’s marathon where Uganda will be represented by Stephen Kissa, Victor Kiplangat and Andrew Rotich Kwemoi.
