Focus on Nature As Hima Readies For Rwenzori Marathon

Leading provider of Cement and concrete based building solutions in the region, Hima Cement, has expressed their readiness ahead of the 2023 Tusker-Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon due September 2 in Kasese.

Hima are one of the Sponsors for the much anticipated event, returning on board having been part of the debut edition last year.

Together with local leaders, Hima Cement unveiled the Marathon Kit on Friday at the Kasese Plant.

“Hima has been in Uganda for a long time and we are still part of this community,” started Philemon Mubiru, the Head of Innovation and Marketing who joined Hima back in 2008.

“And we really appreciate the ambiance, the friendliness of the people from this region.

“We thrive based on the raw materials that we extract from the Rwenzori region so we appreciate the relationship we have kept for the last years with the community around.

Mubiru added: “We really appreciate the fact that the Rwenzori Marathon is one of the key initiatives we can participate in to showcase our commitment to preserve our environment.”

He said that the Company’s focus is on sustainability as they strive to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from their factory.

“The purpose of this marathon is to emphasise the conservation of nature.”

He commented that their sustainability strategy drives their efforts to combat climate change and minimize their impact on the environment.

“Our approach to Sustainability is centered around four pillars – Climate and Energy, Circular Economy, Nature and People.”

Hilda Maate, the Hima Town Council Local Council Three Chairperson, called on the locals to embrace the Marathon.

She also arrested all the security fears, and emphasised the presence of the two Barracks in the area.

“Kasese, Hima to start with is very safe, feel at home and do not hesitate to bring your visitors here as well,” started Maate.

“I urge all my fellow Politicians to come and support this activity (Marathon). I would also like to talk to all residents, this Marathon benefits us. It will promote tourism and also improve our daily lives.”

Maate commended Hima Cement for their input in making the Marathon a possibility in Kasese, and encouraged them to “continue working with us.”

She added: “Let’s increase our energy and participation in this because it will elevate Kasese region to another level.”

Besides title sponsor Tusker Lite and Hima Cement, other partners on board for this Marathon include Coca Cola and Rwenzori Mineral water, Rocket Health, UNDP, Uniliver and Standard Chartered.
