Uganda’s Cricket Cranes had their defense of the East Africa Trophy T20 Cup start on a brilliant note following their commanding victories against hosts Rwanda and Tanzania on Sunday.

The Cricket Cranes bowled off the competition against Rwanda, and despite the hosts, through Eric Dusingizimana (50) and Orchide Tuyisenge (34) putting up some resistance with the bat, Uganda was well equipped to neutralize any form of resistance.

Kenneth Waiswa led the Cricket Cranes in that counterattack. The above pair had proved a hard one to contain, but once Waiswa dismissed the latter, Rwanda came down crushing.

Waiswa went on to dismiss two more in a succession, and a hat-trick it was for the all-rounder.

Alpesh Ramjani had two wickets in this game while both Bilal Hassun and Siraje Nsubuga each picked one.

Waiswa also pitched in with the bat, scoring 22 runs, but it was youngster Ronald Lutaya (43) and team captain Brian Masaba (37) who contributed the most with the bat in this one.

Against Tanzania, the Cricket Cranes chased 143/8 in the 18.2 Overs to win the game by 6 wickets.

Simon Ssesazi who was ducked against Rwanda delivered a half century, but the limelight again belonged to Waiswa. The left hander went a notch higher in this one as he picked four wickets.

He did his business at the backend of the innings, and he once again bagged the Player of the Match award.

Waiswa had support from Henry Senyondo (2) and Jonathan Ssebanja who on his return to the national team picked a wicket.

Roger Mukasa (37), Masaba (25), and Ronak Patel (14) scored the runs for Uganda during their chase. Ronak who came in to bat at number 4 was featuring for the national team for the first time since March.

The Cricket Cranes return to action on Monday against Tanzania.
