Mawokota moved top of Muganzirwaza group despite a 1-all draw against Ssese in a Masaza Cup game held on Sunday.
Joseph Kayondo scored for Mawokota while Mubaraka Masereka scored for Ssese as the two sides shared points.
The draw saw Mawokota move to the top of Muganzirwaza with 13 points, leapfrogging Gomba who lost to Kabula on Saturday.
Mawokota had last appeared on top in their opening two games where they had also beaten defending champions Busiro.
Coached by Richard Malinga, Mawokota will feel proud for picking up a point against a Ssese side that has proved to stubborn to most of the big sides.
For Ssese, they moved to third position with now 10 points and are mathematically still in the race to get out of the group stages.
Elsewhere, Gomba suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kabula in game held on Saturday away from home.
Asibuka Bernard and Naturinda Denis scored for Kabula as they picked their second win of this tournament while Samuel Lukoye’s goal wasn’t enough for Gomba as they suffered defeat.
It was a poor outing for Gomba, who were on top before Saturday’s game.
They now dropped to the second position with 12 points and there must be a reaction in their upcoming fixtures to brighten their chances of getting out of the group stages.
