Heat 2 Top Five
- Kenneth Brooks (USA) – 8:23.66
- Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco) – 8:23.66
- Mohamed Amin (Tunisia) – 8:24.20
- Abraham Kibiwot (Kenya) – 8:24.31
- Leonard Chemutai (Uganda) – 8:24.74
Uganda’s Leonard Chemutai is through to the 3000m Steeplechase final at the ongoing 2023 World Athletics Championship.
Chemutai finished fifth in Heat Two, clocking 8:24.74, just enough to book himself a place in the final.
He started slowly and sat deep in the field that remained compact for the best part of the race.
But moved high up and remained with the leaders with about three laps to go and never relinquished his spot among the top five.
The first five of each heat went through to the final.
Chemutai, making his debut at the World Championships, will be hoping to win a medal in the final on Tuesday at 10:42pm.
The Heat Two was won by America’s Kenneth Rooks who got an edge over favorite Soufiane El Bakkali after a photo finish.
It’s strong to note that Chemutai won Gold at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Australia in June this year.
