UCU Canons beat JKL Dolphins 68-53 on Wednesday at Lugogo to return to winning ways in the National Basketball League.

The Canons were on course for a sixth defeat in a row when they trailed 18-12 after the first quarter.

But they chased down the game from thereafter, won the second quarter 21-12 to take a slender 3-point lead at halftime.

The Canons dominated the third quarter in which they limited JKL to just three points, against their 14, on their way to winning a 15-point game.

Ibanda Lwabaga led with a game high 19 points while Jerry Kayanga shot 4-for-7 from three to collect 14 while Jerry Otim added 13 points.

Denis Tom Omara (14), Chuma Fadhil (12) and Bienfait Lola (10) scored in double digits for JKL Dolphins.

Ahmed Kassa, who had scored a game high in their victory over Power over the weekend, couldn’t get things going – missing all his 9 shots from three!

Overall, JKL missed 30 of their 33 three point-attempts and made 23 turnovers.

The win means UCU Canons have completed a double over JKL Dolphins, having beaten the side 57-41 earlier in the first round.

UCU notably ended their five-game losing streak while JKL (6-13) couldn’t pick their third consecutive win.
