UCU Canons have their work cut out against JKL Dolphins when the two sides meet on Wednesday at Lugogo in the National Basketball League.

The Canons have lost five games in a row, including a walk-over defeat against Power on Friday.

That Power loss came after UCU had traveled with a Blue jersey, that matched with Power, hence a colour clash.

The Canons have since appealed against the controversial FUBA ruling, with a decision set to be communicated after a Technical Meeting by FUBA.

But if the decision is withheld, UCU will as well automatically lose the first round match against Power!

Before Friday’s game against Power, UCU had lost their four back-to-back fixtures against UPDF (53-57), Nam Blazers (47-66), Ndejje Angels (82-89) and KIU Titans (55-73).

Against JKL Dolphins, a Mukono-derby of sorts, UCU are without head coach Nicholas Natuhereza who is with Team Uganda at Giants of Africa in Rwanda.

Big Man Peter Sifuma is sidelined, and he will be dearly missed as he is averaging a double double of 11.8 points and 13.1 rebounds this season.

Guards Brian Otim and Jerry Kayanga who were left out of the squad on Friday, are back in contention and have been selected.

JKL Dolphins lost the first round fixture 41-57, and were beaten by UCU four times last year including twice in the playoffs (best of three) against UCU.

But they will feel that now is the right time to face UCU and exert their revenge.

They have picked momentum, and have won two games on the bounce – Our Saviour (80-79) and Power (71-60).

Ahmed Kassa scored 27 points against Power, and the shooting guard has proved to be a great addition since joining from KIU Titans in the concluded mid-season transfer window.

Kassa, with 13, is among the four JKL players averaging double digits in scoring, the other three are Austin Odhiambo, Denis Tom Omara and Fadhil Chuma.

John Focus Teko and Bienfait Lola Minani are the other players that have put up good numbers, the latter having started all the club’s 18 games this season!
