Kyadondo 7s: Heathens Clinch Second Circuit Victory at Home

Heathens won the Kyadondo 7s after defeating the Pirates 19-12 in the circuit final, courtesy of three tries—two from Malcom Okello, and one from Lawrence Ssebuliba.

This triumph marked Heathens’ second circuit success, following their initial victory in the Rujumba 7s held in Bweyogerere.

This victory was a significant turnaround for Heathens, as they rebounded from their disappointing performance in the previous circuit held in Tooro, where they failed to progress beyond the group stages, ending up in the 9th position.

However, their determination and hard work were clearly evident in their stellar performance in the Kyadondo 7s, in the presence of their supporters.

Ssebuliba and Okello were notably the stand out players for the Heathens during the weekend. Aside from their stellar performances in the final game, their contribution to the team’s success throughout the entire competition was immense.

Having featured in two finals so far, they hold a clean record having won in both appearances, the first against KOBs, and the recent one being against Pirates.

With the victory, Heathens solidified their position on the series log, moving up to third spot with 84 points.

They are hot on the heels of KOBs, who are in second place with 89 points, and Pirates, currently leading with 93 points.

For Pirates, this final marked their third appearance but their first loss in this crucial stage. Even then, they still regained their top spot on the log following their appearance in the final and KOBs having finished sixth.

With two circuits left to play, the title is still wide open, and the competition looks to be amongst the three—Pirates, KOBs, and Heathens.
