Uganda Premier League Champions Vipers SC have confirmed that they will take on South African Giants Mamelodi Sundowns in an international friendly.

The match between the Venoms and Masandawana is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023 at the University of Pretoria – TUKS Stadium at 3pm (4pm EAT).

The game will be a big boost for Vipers, who are gearing up for the upcoming CAF champions League preliminary stages, where they will face Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy this month.

And the Friendly against Sundowns will be be just four days before they face Jwaneng Galaxy in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Sunday 20th this month.

The club confirmed that after the friendly, they will then connect directly from South Africa to Botswana for their Sunday encounter against Jwaneng.

Against Sundowns, it will be a big test against a side that has16 Premier Soccer League titles and has one CAF champions League title.

Sundowns is a home to former Uganda Cranes Captain and goalkeeper Denis Masinde Onyango.

Vipers have already played Kenya’s Kagera Sugar in a friendly that was held at Kitende last week where they picked a 2-0 win, courtesy of Abdul Lumala and Brazilian striker Rodriguez Giancarlo goals.

The Kitende based earned their maiden CAF champions League group stages ticket last season when they beat TP Mazembe and are seeking for a strong return to the continent this season.
