Uganda Women’s National Netball Team, the She Cranes, will face hosts South Africa in their last game at the 2023 Netball World Cup.

The winner of this tie will finish fifth at the tournament while the beaten side will be settling for sixth.

But whatever the result, say sixth at worse, will be Uganda’s best ever finish at the Netball World Cup!

Uganda finished a joint 13th on their debut in Trinidad & Tobago before finishing 8th and 7th respectively at the 2015 Australia and 2019 England World Cup.

This will be the second time the two sides face off at this World Cup after the SPAR Proteas edged the edge 52-50 in their last game of the second preliminary round.

That loss left a bitter taste in many mouths of Ugandans who felt hard done by the poor officiating.

But it was a good fight back from the She Cranes who trailed 19-33 at halftime.

That defeat meant She Cranes finished Fourth behind third placed South Africa, with both teams automatically dropping down to classifications.

Uganda beat Malawi 57-46 while South Africa rolled past Tonga 72-46 to set up another meeting between the two best teams on the continent.

South Africa beat Uganda 67-40 at the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool but the She Cranes won 53-48 last year at the Commonwealth games in Birmingham.

Margaret Baagala who missed the South African encounter recently, will be expected to come out guns blazing having played a vital role on her return against Malawi.

It remains to be seen if Shadiah Nassanga who scored 38 goals against Malawi will start.
