FUFA Big League side Lugazi FC have released seven players ahead of the new season.
Bob Charles Akena, Farook Banga, Godfrey Bubi, David Kizza, Tito Titus Lubega, Ben Ntege and Florence Watmon have all been relieved of their duties at Lugazi.
In an official club statement released on Friday, 4th August 2023, Lugazi CEO, Sulait Abdul Swamadu stated that they parted with all the above mentioned players in good terms.
“The (Lugazi) management commends them (the players) for their contribution and unwavering commitment while at the club,” said Swamadu.
Meanwhile, the team sold their top scorer Gerald Ogweti to BUL FC, and let goalkeeper Anthony Emojong return to KCCA, but have not announced any new signings as of yet, except a three-year contract extension of their current coach William Kyeswa until 2026.
Regardless, the team, that will only be playing for the second term in the Big League seems so prepared for the new season.
Lugazi was one of the first two teams to be cleared for the new season after meeting the minimum Club Licensing Requirements within the stipulated time.
They had fully submitted all the Club Licensing Mandatory requirements by Monday 24th July 2023. An implication that they’re just waiting for the season to start already.
In their first season in the Big League, Lugazi were only 13 points away from qualification, after finishing sixth on the 15-team table with 44 points from 30 games. Now they want to move a steep further.
As Lugazi attempt qualification to the first division, they will however have to deal with ‘big boys’ Blacks Power and Onduparaka who have just arrived back from the Premier League.
The will also face stiff competition from Police, Kyetume, Ndejje University, and Mbale Heroes, who, have all in the past ever played Premier League football before.
Booma, Calvary, Kataka are all stubborn opponents in the Big League, besides new entrants Kigezi HomeBoys, Kiyinda Boys, Kaaro Karungi and Young Elephants.
