Ekiri E Lugogo: KCCA Meet Kenya’s Kakamega HomeBoyz

KCCA FC all set for Kakamega Homeboyz

There’s too much excitement at Lugogo at the moment ahead of the ‘KCCA FC Day’ theis Friday.

The KCCA-organised fest dubbed ‘Ekiri e Lugogo’ will be held at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, in a bid to strengthen the bond between the club and the fans and supporters.

The event, expected to attract thousands of fans from all over Uganda will feature a number of activities, including unveiling of the 2023/24 squad and an international friendly football match against Kenyan top division side Kakamega HomeBoyz.

KCCA understandably chose to invite Kakamega Homeboyz because both clubs have continental ambitions and will therefore be a perfect test ahead of the CAF games that start in August.

Kakamega are Kenya’s sole representatives in this year’s CAF Competitions. The side will play in CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers in August and host Libya’s El Hilal in the first leg of the first preliminary round.

This, KCCA believe will help them prepare well for the continent, as well as widen their boundaries as far as exposure is concerned.

Tickets for the event are going for 20,000UGX ordinary and 50,000UGX VIP at the stadium, and the club has promised an extraordinary fusion of football and electrifying music.

Spice Diana has promised that it will be enormous. “It’s going to be massive!,” the ‘Siri Regular’ singer stated.

Indeed, the Lugogo based club is also ‘not regular’, as this exact kind of event will only be the first of it’s kind for a Ugandan club.

We have seen the same before in Tanzania, with Yanga’s Wanainchi day and Simba’s Simba day – the crowds are huge, and the support is overwhelming! it’s always massive! Yet, the same can’t be said of Uganda and Ugandan clubs.

By plain standards, KCCA is as big in Uganda as Yanga and Simba are in Tanzania, in terms of history and fan base. KCCA is one of the most successful clubs in the country, and in East Africa at large.

Will the ‘KCCA day’ be as big as the Yanga and Simba days in Tanzania? Certainly not now, but with consistency, we could be able to see that same ‘Tanzanian vibe’ in Ugandan football.

The KCCA CEO, Anisha Muhoozi has promised that the ‘KCCA Day’ will be an annual event.
