Uganda Women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles, suffered a humiliating 62-88 defeat against Mozambique in the classification game at 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Kigali.
It’s a successive defeat for Uganda who lost 61-66 to hosts Rwanda on Wednesday at the Quarterfinal stage.
Going into the classification games, the morale was completely down for the Gazelles who trailed by 13 points after the first quarter.
Mozambique capitalised on Uganda’s rustiness when they threaded a 14-0 run and never relinquished their lead.
As it was against Rwanda, the Gazelles let Mozambique shoot a couple of uncontested threes.
And the side also made a high 30 turnovers on a day to forget.

The Gazelles missed Forward Jane Asinde who was taken off hurt against Rwanda on Wednesday.
Jannon Otto finished with 18 points while Claire Lamunu and Lydia Babirye added 12 points each.
Mucauro Agostinho scored a game high 23 points while Odelia Mafanela (16pts) was 7-for-8 from the field.

The Gazelles will face Guinea, who lost to Cameroon in the other classification match, for who finishes 7th and 8th at the tournament.
Mozambique will face off with Cameroon for 5-6th placement game.
