Uganda U18 Women national football team head coach Ayub Khalifa is confident of that his side will win this year’s CECAFA U18 Women Championship that is ongoing in Tanzania.
Khalifa made the remarks after his side’s 7-0 comfortable win over Burundi in a game held at Azam Complex on Tuesday.
A brace each from Kamiyat Naigaga and Shamusa Najjuma and each a goal from Agnes Nabukenya, Phiona Nabulime and Allen Nassazi ensured that Uganda picked a deserved win on Tuesday.
While addressing the press after the game, Khalifa first hailed the girls for following instructions.
“We have won convincingly with a margin of seven goals and am happy the girls played under instructions, they followed what we discussed and we achieved our objective,” he said.
It was a good game for Khalifa’s charges, who looked aggressive and clinical on the day.
They opened the scoring as early the fifth minute through Nabukenya, who set the tone for others.
The win saw Uganda move to the top, with nine points and a better goal difference (11) better than second placed Tanzania, who are tied on similar points.
Uganda will now need any positive result in their last game on Friday against Tanzania to take the championship and Kiyingi is confident that his side will take the day.
“It is a final and the winner is going to take the day. We are going to go back on the drawing board and find a way of handling Tanzania and am sure by Friday we shall have that win with us.”
The win against Burundi was the third straight win for Uganda, who earlier on beat Zanzibar (3-0) and Ethiopia (1-0).
Besides the good performance in this tournament, Khalifa’s charges are yet to concede any goal in all their three games.
And in their last game against the hosts Tanzania on Friday, any positive result or even a win will see Uganda crowned champions in a tournament that is played in a round robin format where the team with the most points will take the championship.
