Uganda U18 Women National Football team got off a perfect start to the CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship following their 1-0 win over Ethiopia in a game held on Tuesday evening at the Azam complex in Dar es salam, Tanzania.
Second half substitute Allen Nassazi scored the all important goal in the 63rd minute as Uganda earned a hard fought win.
Nassazi benefited from goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu’s long pass, showed composure and scored the only important goal of the game.
It was a perfect start for Uganda, who are under the stewardship of Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi.
The first half was a closely contested affair on day both sides had a few scoring opportunities.
But after the restart, head coach Ayub Khalifa introduced in Nassazi for Shamsa Najjuma in the 58th minute, a move that later paid off.
And with five minutes after her introduction, Nassazi collected from Kaidu, beat Ethiopian defenders before finishing up in style, a goal that later turned out to be the winner.
Victory ensured that Uganda got off to a perfect start, and are now second behind hosts Tanzania, who took care of Burundi 3-0 in the opening game.
The team will be back in action this week on Friday as they take on Zanzibar in what will be the second game of this championship.
Its strong to note that this tournament consists of five teams including hosts Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Burundi and Ethiopia.
And it is played in a round robin format and the team with most points at the end will be crowned champions.
