John Peter Ongodia, the Head Coach of North Eastern Regional League side Bukedea Central FC, has resigned from his role over match fixing allegations.
Bukedea Central suffered a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Mbale Heroes FC in the first leg of the Regional League Playoffs at Emokori Playgrounds on Saturday 17th June 2023.
James Otim scored his first Mbale Heroes goal in the 14th minute and this was followed by 4 set piece goals that included a penalty from Mark Bumakyaye and freekicks from each of Shaka Sozi, Marco Methodius Barssey and Patrick Gonahasa. Literally, every setpiece was a sure goal.
Ongodia says people who celebrated with him when they won the North East Regional League title are the same people accuseing him of ‘selling the game’ to Mbale Heroes FC.
The CAF C license holder is the head coach of Karamoja Province in the FUFA Drum Tournament. He also formerly worked as Head Coach for Lady Doves F and assistant coach for Calvary FC.
The return leg of the playoffs is scheduled for Thursday 22nd June 2023 at Mbale Stadium. Mbale Heroes FC is all but qualified for FUFA Big League because they are leading 5-0 on aggregate, Bukedea Central need to win 6-0 ok order to overturn the scoreline or 5-0 to force penalty shootouts.
Coach Ongodia’s full statement as posted on the Bukedea Central Group:
“Good afternoon everyone associated with Bukedea Central FC, as the Head Coach of the team I want to thank you all for the time we have spent together through thick and thin, right from the 2nd leg of the Regional league to the North- East Regional League play offs that we celebrated together after becoming champions.
