Mary Nuba, Lightning Win Second Netball League Title

Mary Nuba Cholhok was outstanding as Loughborough Lightning won their second Netball Super League title.

Nuba scored 44 goals as Lightning beat London Pulse 57-48 in Sunday’s final at Copper Box Arena in England.

It was an epic and closely contested affair, with Lightning trailing 17-13 after the first quarter.

They cut the deficit to two goals (31-29) at halftime before taking a four-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter, and held onto their advantage.

Rhea Dixon added 13 goals in Goal attack position while Hannah Joseph (WA), Natalie Panagarry (C), Jasmin Odeogberin (WD) and Francesca Williams (GD) contributed heavily in the victory.

It’s the second title for Nuba and Lightning who beat Bath 49-32 in 2021 final.

The win is a huge relief for Lightning and Nuba who lost last season’s final to Manchester Thunder.

Nuba finish the season as the top scorer with 908 goals in 19 games, with Lenize Potgieter of Manchester Thunder second with 850 goals.

Nuba will now shift focus to Uganda She Cranes ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa.
