•United States 0-2 Uruguay

Semifinals – June 8
•Uruguay Vs Israel
•Italy Vs South Korea

Nigeria’s run at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup came to and end after falling to South Korea at the Quarterfinals.

Choi Seokhyun’s extra-time header sent Nigeria packing, to end African hopes and interest in the competition.

It’s strong to note that Africa had sent four representatives (Semifinalists from AFCON U20) at the World Cup in Argentina.

Senegal, who won the AFCON U20, failed to go past the groups while Gambia and Tunisia were knocked out by Uruguay and Brazil respectively at the Round of 16.

Nigeria had shocked at the hosts Argentina with a 2-0 victory at the Round of 16.

Facing South Korea, Nigeria were the better team in the 90 minutes but failed to get a breakthrough.

And they were later punished five minutes into extra time when Lee Seungwon delivered a corner which Choi headed at the far end to leave Goalkeeper Kingsleg Aniagboso stunned.

And it’s end of the road for Nigeria whose wait for a third World Cup title continues since winning their last back in 2005.

Korea who reached the final in the last edition (2019) before falling to Ukraine, have a chance to make amends when they take on Italy in semis.

Uruguay and Israel face off in the other semifinal, with the final due June 11 at Estadio Unico Armando Maradona in La Prata.
