Nigeria stormed the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup at the expense of hosts Argentina.
Nigeria shocked Argentina with a 2-0 win in a Round of 16 match at Estadio San Juan.
Second half goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Rilwanu Haliru Sarki ensured a shocking result for the Flying Eagles.
Nigeria rattled the crossbar in the first half but later got the breakthrough at the hour mark when Emmanuel Umeh put Muhammad through before he poked past an onrushing goalkeeper.
Argentina improved, and thrice came close – They hit a bottom post, denied by the keeper and later had a close range effort denied.
And towards the full-time whistle, Nigeria doubled their lead to silence the home crowd.
Haliru Sarki headed in the second after Argentina were caught in possession.
And Nigeria who have won FIFA U20 World Cup twice in 1989 and 2005, will face the winner between Ecaudor and Korea.
It’s an agonising end for hosts Argentina who have won this competition six times!
