Lwakataka Out After 10 Months in Jail

Ponsiano Lwakataka has been released from jail

Rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka is out of jail having been granted bail by Mukono high court judge David Matovu today – Monday.

Lwakataka and eight others were first arrested in January 2019 for malicious damage to property and criminal trespass.

Lwakataka and co-accused, their case couldn’t continue due to COVID19 outbreak but when courts resumed normally in 2022, Lwakataka skipped the court appearance hence court ordered was released for him to be arrested.

Lwakataka late in November 2022 after spending four months behind bars was found guilty of trespass and malicious damage to property by Mukono Chief Magistrates Court.

The magistrate considered the time Lwakataka had spent on remand [four months] and deducted the same to remain with a 16months period in jail.

However Lwakataka appealed the sentence in addition to handing in his bail application and its from that background that the 2011 Pearl of Africa Uganda rally has been granted bail.
