Kings College Budo Vs Namilyango College
2022 finalists and first runners-up, Kings’ College Budo, secured their spot in the Uganda Secondary Schools’ Sports Associations (USSSA) rugby final with a hard-fought victory over Makerere College School (MACOS).
Following a 13-13 tie at full time, Budo earned and successfully converted a penalty in extra time, gaining themselves a breakthrough for redemption in the final matchup.
However, their redemption journey will not be an easy one, as they face off against defending champions Namilyango College in the final.
Namilyango defeated 2019 Champions, St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) 19-13 to set up a replay of last year’s final in Gulu.
Last year (2022), Namilyango College beat Kings College Budo 15-09 to claim the boys’ title and the Budo boys are eager to avenge their defeat this year.
Namilyango College comes into the final as both the USSSA and Federation of East African Secondary Schools’ Sports Associations (FEASSSA) rugby titleholders.
With their pedigree in this competition, Namilyango College looks to be the favourites and will undoubtedly be a challenge for Kings College Budo, who will have to bring their A-game if they are to stand a chance of victory and redemption.
Budo will however take heart from their impressive performance this year, from the central schools rugby league to their USSSA performance this far, in which they have shown resilience and determination.
They will also be spurred on by their desire to avenge last year’s defeat and bring the USSSA rugby title back to their school.
As of now, both the finalists (Kings College and Namilyango College), have earned automatic qualification to the FEASSSA Rugby tournament 2023.
The FEASSSA brings together all secondary schools sports associations across East Africa and the best schools from the region will compete against themselves.
