Lumala Abdu scored his first Uganda Premier League goal as Vipers beat Gaddafi in a game played under floodlights at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

Abubakar Lawal put the Venoms ahead as Vipers won 2-0 to close in on leaders SC Villa and KCCA FC.

Lawal’s goal settled nerves as the Visitors tried to grow into the game, firing into the roof after receiving from captain Milton Karisa in the 23rd minute.

Lumala, off the bench, sneaked in unmarked to double the advantage from close range after a low pass from another substitute Cromwell Rwothomio.

The goal is a sief of relief from Lumala, coming off a string of poor performances.

His lack of effort and luxurious lifestyle off the pitch have been points of criticism from media and fans.

And at full-time, his teammates carried him and three him up in the air on a night he will not want to forget easily.

Gaddafi who slipped to their ninth loss of the season, were second best throughout and barely threatened at the other end.

And the scoreline could have been heavier but Isa Mubiru missed a chance to extend Vipers advantage when he sent his effort over the bar after beating the goalkeeper.

Hilary Mukundane headed way over the bar from Karisa free kick, while Karisa had his freekick saved by Joel Mutakubwa.

The win sees Vipers return to winning ways after falling 1-0 to rivals SC Villa at Wankululuku.

And it sets a good platform for their Friday fixture against second-placed KCCA at Kitende, with both teams separated by just three points.
