Mbarara City left it late against struggling Luweero United thanks to Defender Karim Ramathan’s late header at Kakyeka stadium in the FUFA Big League.
The victory keeps their promotion chances alive and closer to gaining qualification to the top flight with just four games to the end of the campaign.
Mbarara City finally returns to winning ways after failing to register maximum points in their last two matches.
However, Sadiq Sempiji’s charges needed to dig deep to get rid of relegation threatened Luweero United.
They waited up to 82nd minute to find the breakthrough after defender Karim jumped highest to head home a Sadat Nsubuga corner kick.
The Ankole Lions dominated proceedings from the first minute but were toothless in the box.
Jude Ssemugabi was gifted with the first chance of the game but his ball couldn’t find any of his teammates before Seiri Arigumaho raced on Sunday Goefrey pass but didn’t yield anything.
Just like first half, Second half was cagey however, the hosts had something to celebrate for after their patience paid off.
For Luweero United, its a heartbreak after holding on for 80 minutes.
Atleast they would have deserved to come back with something after frustrating the hosts.
However, the result sinks them even closer to relegation with just four matches to the end of the season.
Mbarara City remain third on the log with 48 points after 26 matches while Luweero United are 13th with 28 points.
They will all return to action on Thursday 27th, Mbarara City will visit Soroti City while Luweero United host Kitara FC
