FUFA has confirmed that they will host the CECAFA U15 Boys Championship this year.
FUFA President Moses Magogo revealed the developments during a National Teams Press Conference on Thursday in Mengo.
This will be the second edition of the competition and it will be played for the first time since the inaugural edition in 2019.
Then, Uganda won the tournament held in Eritrea, beating Kenya 4-0 in the final with Abasi Kyeyune (2), Travis Mutyaba and Davis Ogwal on target at Asmara International Stadium.
Magogo said that the tournament has not been played since because no country has shown interest in hosting it.
“Since the last time we played in Eritrea, the challenge has been that no body wants to host and yet for us it’s the beginning our Junior’s league,” Magogo noted.
“Today we are talking about the likes of Travis Mutyaba but where are the coming from? They are coming from this generation of U15 that eventually became U17 then they have become the U20.
“Well as it is costly, we have taken the responsibility on behalf of CECAFA to host the U15 CECAFA Championship this year.”
The tournament includes National Boys team Under-15 from the East and Central African region.
Besides Uganda, other countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Djibouti among others are expected to take part.
The details, including dates for the tournament, are expected to be revealed in the due course. But it’s expected to be hosted around August, the same the 2019 edition was held.
