NEC Captain Kavuma Marvin scored an hat-trick to inspire his side to a 5-1 win over Soroti City in the FUFA Big League game at Bugolobi Coffee Ground.

Sulaiman Ssesaazi and Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored the other goals for the hosts after Odeke Simon Peter had earlier equalized for Soroti City.

The Die hards have consequently put an end to their three games winless run to keep their promotion hopes alive.

It’s a perfect revenge for NEC who lost the reverse fixture 1-0 in the first round.

For Soroti City, it’s a big another blow in their quest to avoiding relegation.

The hosts made their intentions known from the first minute and it wasn’t a surprise when they took an early lead in the 7th minute through Kavuma from the spot after a Handball in the area by Okello Solomon.

The hosts dominance could have been rewarded with a second goal but Julius Kazibwe’s effort was cleared off the line by Captain Apuri Walter after a fumble from the Goalkeeper who failed to handle Ajuna Richard’s cross.

Odeke restored parity for the visitors in the 34th minute off Opio Daniel pass to slot the ball past the Goalkeeper in the near post.

NEC wasted many chances in the first half most especially Tonny Kiberu who was not clinical enough on three occasions.

At the start of second half, Ssesaazi restored the hosts lead in the 49th minute with a powerful header off Kimwero Shamir corner kick.

Ssesaazi could have completed his brace later on but the Goalkeeper was spot on to punch away his bouncing freekick.

Kiberu once again squandered another chance after a nice turn to beat two defenders but his effort went wide.

Kavuma completed his brace in the 81st minute capitalising on a mistake from Apuri who he turned inside out before beating the Goalkeeper.

A minute later, Kavuma completed his hat-tick with a powerful shot past the Goalkeeper after out muscling Olado Ronald.

In the 89th minute, Sserunkuma scored his first goal of the season from the penalty after Apuri handled the ball in the box.

NEC moves to third on the log with 40 points after 22 matches while Soroti City remain 13th with 23 points after 22 matches.
