Blacks Power 1-0 Wakiso Giants

Micheal Siwu scored a late header as Blacks Power stunned Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier League game at Akii-bua Memorial stadium.

The win moved Hussein Mbalangu’s charges out of the red zone, level on 15 points with Busoga United.

The Lira based side also picked their first win of the year after losing all two games they have played in the second round.

It’s also Blacks Power’s first victory since 29th November 2022 beating UPDF 1-0, they had gone eight games without a win.

For Wakiso Giants, it’s a consecutive defeat after losing their previous game to Maroons.

John Luyinda side have just picked one point in the second round in three matches.

The Purple Sharks have now gone five matches without a win since their 2-0 away victory at Bright Stars on 13th December 2022.

Both sides enjoyed a share of possessions in the opening exchanges.

Wakiso Giants was twice denied by the woodwork after both Marvin Nyanzi and Aliro Moses came close to breaking the deadlock.

Norman Ogik and Aliro forced Goalkeeper into diving save to keep the scoreline intact.

The hosts also created a number of chances in the first half but were not clinical enough.

Ali Mukiibi was presented with a perfect chance after a training ground freekick from Siwu but he opted for a pass instead of a go at goal that was eventually cleared.

Dickens Okwir and Robert Eseru combined well but they both couldn’t find a break through.

In the second half, Wakiso Giants rarely threatened the hosts.

Despite their dominance, Blacks Power couldn’t make it count with most of their attempts at goal easily tamed by the Goalkeeper.

However, the breakthrough came in the 92nd minute when Siwu headed home from close range off Jackson Wabuleta freekick.

Despite protests from the Goalkeeper who thought the goalscorer was offside, the goal stood and it proved to be a winning goal.

Blacks Power moves out of the relegation zone with 15 points in the 13th position after 18 matches while Wakiso Giants are 5th with 26 points in 18 matches.
