Nsimbe Badru Jibril’s first half goal gave UPDF all points against wasteful Bright Stars at Bombo Barracks Ground in the Uganda Premier League.

Both teams finished the game with a man less after Goalkeeper Hassan Matovu was sent off in the first half for Bright Stars before UPDF defender Moses Kiggundu was also shown marching orders.

UPDF picks their first win of the second round and only their third this season, all coming at home.

It’s a huge boost for Brian Senyondo’s side as far as relegation battle is concerned.

Bright Stars winless run at the Bombo Barracks Ground now stretches to four games.

The visitors were dominant in the opening exchanges but Emmanuel Loki was denied by the cross bar from a Nelson Senkatuka lay off.

Bright Stars was punished in the 39th minute after Nsimbe fired the hosts in front.

The goal was contested by the Visitors whose Goalkeeper was already down prior to the goal.

And Bright Stars were reduced to 10 men after Goalkeeper Hassan Matovu was shown red card in 41st minute for an altercation with the referee.

In the second half, Bright Stars pressed for an equaliser with substitute Yasin Mugume and Nelson Ssenkatuka all coming close but the Skipper’s effort was saved by the Goalkeeper.

The hosts could have doubled their lead through Yiga Frank but the Winger couldn’t connect well with the ball.

UPDF moves to 12th on the log with 15 points after 18 matches while Bright Stars remain 6th with 24 points after 17 matches.

On Friday 31st March, UPDF will take on Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium while Bright Stars will host URA at Kavumba Recreation Ground the next day.
