Uganda Cup: Perfect Start For Alex Isabirye As Vipers Oust Wakiso

*Bright Stars 4-0 Kiyinda Boys
*Wakiso Giants (3)1-1(4) Vipers

Vipers have knocked Wakiso Giants out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup in Alex Isabirye’s first game as the Venoms coach.

After normal time ended 1-1, the match went into direct shootouts where Vipers managed to come out victorious, for the third time this season, to reach the Quarterfinals.

Norman Ojik had his penalty saved by goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora before Tom Masiko hit the crossbar to end Wakiso’s dream.

Earlier on, the Venoms needed to fight back after Wakiso Giants took a lead through Sharif Kimbowa.

Kimbowa was sent through by a nice chip from Marvin Nyanzi before finishing off brilliantly for the opener.

But the Venoms rallied back with Ashraf Mandela sweeping in after Martin Kizza had made a good lay-up.

The equaliser was Vipers’ first goal in eight games, and the side managed to built on that relief with victory in penalties in a game which was watched by Club President Lawrence Mulindwa.

Bright Anukani, Martin Kizza, Abubakar Lawal and Hillary Mukundane scored Vipers penalties.

George Kaddu, Rahmat Ssenfuka and Moses Aliro converted their penalties for the hosts who are for the second time in a row been shown an exit door by Vipers in this Competition.

Vipers will hope that it’s the first of many as they prepare to take on Raja Casablanca in CAF Champions League on Saturday at Kitende.
