Uganda Cup: Bright Stars Reach Quarterfinals

Bright Stars have reached the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinals after easing past Regional League side Kiyinda Boys.

Bright Stars won 4-0 in a Uganda Cup round of 16 encounter at Kavumba Recreation ground.

Ibrahim Kasinde led the way with a brace, Loki Emmanuel and Nelson Senkatuka added a goal each as the UPL side lives to the billing.

And Kiyinda Boys finished with a man less after a red card in the second half.

It’s the end of the road for Kiyinda Boys, a side from Mityana that knocked out Gaddafi FC earlier in the competition.

Kiyinda Boys couldn’t reciprocate what they did in the Round of 64 and the cruel reward is an end to their fairly tale story.

Loki gave Bright Stars an early lead in the very first minute of the game after volleying off a Kasinde delivery.

Kasinde who provided the opener doubled the visitor’s lead in the half hour mark, calmly finishing from Denis Omony Kaka Cross to lead 2-0 at the break.

In the 70th minute, Kasinde completed his brace to make it three for the visitors.

Eight minutes later, Senkatuka got his name on the scoresheet and the fourth for his side, a goal that was an icing on the cake.

Kiyinda Boys were reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute, which was a final nail in their Coffin.

Kiyinda Boys attention turns to Buganda Regional League as they will face Kiboga United at Ssaza ground on Sunday, March 19th.

Bright Stars will fancy another return to the final for the second time since 2019 when they were beaten by Proline in the shootouts.

They will for now shift focus to the league as they visit UPDF on Monday, March 20th at Bombo Barracks Ground.
