Vipers SC Will start life under new head coach Alex Isabirye when they take a short trip to Kabaka kyabagu Stadium to face Wakiso Giants in the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Isabirye was officially unveiled on Sunday this week, replacing Spanish gaffer Beto Bianchi who was sacked last week on Thursday.

And his first assignment comes about 48 hours after landing his new role at the Kitende based club.

“I’m happy to be here. I know this is one of the biggest clubs in Uganda. I want to change a few things here to make this club even more bigger,” Isabirye said ahead of the game.

“It’s a challenging task but If you want to be a winner, your must take on challenges and am ready for that.

“I met these players for a few days but they have been with some of our coaches and I know we shall get the needed result against Wakiso Giants.”

Isabirye’s major task will be to put things right at the club as they seek to save the season.

Under Bianchi, who was sacked last week, Vipers were yet to score a goal nor pick a deserving result in the seven games under the Spanish gaffer.

They lost a double header against Simba SC in the champions League and that result was just enough to end Bianchi’s short spell at Kitende.

And even in the Uganda Cup, Vipers needed shootouts on two occasions against Bujumbura United and Jinja North United to reach this stage.

But Isabirye will bank on his rich history in this competition to get the job done against Wakiso Giants.

He won the title with his former side BUL FC a year ago, beating now his new side Vipers 3-1 at the finals held in Masindi last year.

Reaching CAF Champions League knockout is no longer in their control, and the side will be eager to return on the Continent next season. With KCCA run-away leaders in the league, Vipers are well aware that winning Uganda Cup is their remaining route back to the Continent.

On the other hand, the hosts, Wakiso Giants will fancy their chances to reach the next stage when they take on Vipers.

They eliminated Blacks Power at the round of 32, 6-5 on penalties to reach this far.

Their head coach John Ayala Luyinda had much to say ahead of the tie

“We can’t wait to play a game of that magnitude against Vipers. My players, technical bench are all ready for the challenge. We had a goalless draw with them in our previous encounter in the league, but this is a cup game and we know what to do.”

“They have a new coach in Isabirye, he is a good coach, he has good players but we have been well motivated to face them.”

The Purple Sharks picked a goalless draw against Vipers last month in the league at Kitende.

And they will bank on their home advantage to cause an upset as they seek for revenge against a side that eliminated them 3-1 last year in this competition.
