Kampala Queens picked a 1-0 win over Uganda Martyrs in a FUFA Women Super league game held at St. Gerald stadium, lubaga on Saturday.

Shamirah Naluggya’s first half goal was enough as the Queens of Soccer bagged maximum points.

The win, 12th for Kampala Queens ensured that they returned to winning ways. They are now on 37 points on top and will need one more win to be declared champions.

For Uganda Martyrs, it was a bad in office as they suffered their fifth loss in the season.

On Saturday, it was the hosts that dorminated for the best part of the opening minutes as they searched for an opener.

Sumaiyah Nalumu and Latifah Nakasi made a endless runs on the right flank and missed a couple of chances.

But the Visitors, who were at the receiving end remained calm and composed and waited for their moment to hurt the hosts.

And the turning point came in the 20th minute when Naluggya headed in home from a rebound after Resty Nanziri’s effort had kissed the cross bar, a goal that later turned out winner.

In the second stanza, there was limited chances from both sides.

Uganda Martyrs, who were a goal down barely threatened and looked blunt on many occasions in the final third.

And their only best chance came in the closing stages, but Nalumu’s shot was kept out by Kampala Queens goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.

And in the end, Kampala Queens held on and bagged all the three vital points.

It was a vital win for Kampala Queens and more so in an enemy territory. They are now one win away from being declared champions and are still unbeaten in the season (W12, D1).

For Uganda Martyrs, it was a poor day for them in their bid to stop the Queens. They remained second on the log with 22 points and are 15 points below leaders Kampala Queens.
