Buddo Revels In 3×3 African Title

Buddo SS officially received the trophy their team won at the 2023 Africa Schools Basketball 3×3 championship in Morocco.

The Girls team that beat Morocco 33-29 on aggregate, returned in the Country on Friday.

They were received on Monday by the School management led by Head teacher Lawrence Muwonge in a ceremony at the School premises.

“We thank you for fighting so hard and being committed and not ashaming our school,” Muwonge told the Girls.

“Thank you for making this School and our country very proud. The Uganda celebrated with you, all students old students, parents and the entire basketball and Sports community was very happy especially when the saw the National Anthem being sang.

“The whole world was watching the team. You played with determination and showed a high degree of teamwork. We are the first team in Uganda to receive the African trophy in terms of Basketball 3×3.

“We are happy to be part of this history and we want to thank USSSA and Ministry of Sports for their input.

“You are still young girls, continue playing. You must have great love for the game, and be ready to compete at the world stage. You can join even WNBA teams, don’t just end here, continue developing and make your future bright.

“We are a sports school, with all disciplines including Basketball and football among others.”

The Girls team had Elizabeth Nakabugo (S1), Angella Auma (S3), Christine Namyalo (S4) and Happy Daisy Atukunda (S4), coached by John Jevish Omondi and assisted by Marion Atwegyeise.

The focus now shifts to the World Schools Orienteering Championships to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 19 – 27 August 2023.

Muwonge noted that the achievements are justifiable after the School’s intent to develop Sports.

“Investment in Sports is part of our assignment, ever since the inception of this School, it was set up on that ground. It’s within our mission statement. Providing holistic education year in and year out,” Muwonge said.

“We not only teach but talent discovery and talent development is part of our assignment and mission in tho school.

“We shall not reserve any effort as far as promoting talent and promoting games and co curricular activities is concerned.

“We are all out within our mission to make sure we love and enjoy these activities and this is the assignment of Ministry of Education and Sports. We are not here for Academics but the variety of talent of Students have to be developed.”
